James Daniel
President of Ohio Tri-County Branch of NAACP
A native of Rome, Georgia, Jim moved to Sidney as a youngster and attended
the City of Sidney schools. One of
the first two African-Americans hired at Copeland
Corporation, he has held several positions of responsibility for the last thirty-three
years. From 1968 to 1969, Jim served as President of the Local I.U.E. 725 which
represented over 2,000 employees. From 1987 to 1992 he was Shop Manager for the Copeland
Plant and served on Copelands management board for 4 years. Jim is currently manager
of safety and training for the company.

Jim is very active in the
local civil rights movement and presently serves as the president of the Ohio Conference
of NAACP, Ohio Tri-County Branch NAACP. He is a member of the National NAACP Board of
directors where he serves on several committees. Jim is also very active in the community
and has been the recipient of several awards recognizing his efforts, including the Ohio
Governors Award for Community Services, The Ohio NAACP Outstanding Civil Rights
Worker, City of Sidney Community Service Award, Sidney African American Community Service
Award among many others.
A father of seven, Jim is a member
of the Masonic Blue Lodge #18 and Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. He considers it is his mission
to work for the upward mobility of African Americans and the underprivileged white.
