Indentured as a Servant

as written from the original which appeared in the Shelby County Genealogical
Societys "Shelbyana" newsletter issue, October 1990, No. 45.
This Indenture made this 26th Day of November in the year of Our lord 1828 Witnesseth
that Wm W Cecil Guardian of Sarah Jane Blakely Daughter of Atchinson Blakely Decd of
shelby County Ohio having put & placed and by these presents do put and place the said
Sarah Jane Blakely Born on the 29th Day of June 1826 a Servant to Joseph Mellingor Senr of
the County and State afsd with him to Dwell and Serve from the Date of these presents
until she shall accomplish the full age of Eighteen years according to the statute in such
case made and provided During all which term the said servant her said master faithfully
shall serve on all Lawful Business and shall honestly and obediently in all things demean
and behave herself towards her said master & all his During the said term & the
said Joseph Mellingor for himself his Executors and administrators doth Covenant &
agree to & with the said Wm W Cecil guardian as aforesaid & his sucessor for the
time being by these presents that the said Sarah Jane Blakeley Servant as afsd shall be
instructed in Ordinary household affairs & During all the term aforesaid provide and
allow said Servant Sufficient meat & Drink washing lodging & apparel & all
other things necessary for said servant & shall cause such Servant to be instructed to
read & Write & Will also so provide for said Servant that she shall in no case
become Chargable to the township or Inhabitants thereof During the said term & at the
end of said term will allow provide & deliver to the said servant One New Bible &
two suits of Common Wearing apparel One Spinning Wheel & One bed.

Sarah Jane Blakely; Joseph Mellinger
