America 250 - Ohio

Ohio Commission for the U.S. Semiquincentennial

Ohio Commission for the U.S. Semiquincentennial

The Ohio Commission for the U.S. Semiquincentennial (also referred to as America 250-Ohio) was formed through the OH. Rev. Code § 149.309 and announced on March 1, 2022 on Ohio's Statehood Day by Governor Mike DeWine. The (29) member commission is charged with preparing the state to participate in the United States of America's 250th anniversary which culminates on July 4, 2026.

During this multi-year commemoration, Ohioans from our local communities in all 88 counties, will be the spotlight of the impact that has/is/will be made on our nation's story. From the many "Firsts" that came from Ohio, (i.e. Aviation, Universities/Colleges, National Organizations), to the sacred stories of our residents, and the unique areas of the state that continues to evolve, the rich content of our state will be an opportunity for all people to connect and see themselves in Ohio's story...as well as the story of our nation. Please join us!

Jane Kemp Memorial Quilt Show

July 3 - 5, 2026 at the Shelby County Fairgrounds

Deadline for registration: Friday, May 1, 2026

Date to turn in quilts: Thursday, July 2, 2026

Quilts will be turned in and hung on Thursday, July 2, 2026, in the Clopay Building at the Shelby County Fairgrounds. The Jane Kemp Memorial Quilt Show will open Friday, July 3rd and will be on exhibit July 4th and 5th.

This will not be a judged show, it is a memorial show in memory of Jane Kemp from Sidney. People will have the opportunity to choose their favorite quilt and vote for the People's Choice Award. The prize for the award has yet to be chosen and will be announced closer to the date of the show.

The 250th Anniversary of our nation will be celebrated July 4, 2026, and although the committee anticipates patriotic statements for the quilts, that is not a required theme. Each quilter is telling their own story through their quilt, so as you design and assemble, tell us who you are through your design, your colors, techniques, and your art. Each quilt will be identified as part of this show with a commemorative printed patch to be sewn to the back of your quilt which will be supplied to you by the Shelby County Historical Society.

More information will be shared as we move closer to the show. All quilts MUST be entered by May 1, 2026. This deadline has been set in order to construct the appropriate number of quilt racks.

This show is brought to you by the Loose Threads Quilt Club, Sidney and the Shelby County Historical Society.
