In 2013, Albert Dickas published Passages, An Anthology of Shelby County History, a compilation of fifty articles that he had written over a ten-year period for Historical Highlights, the newsletter published by the Shelby County (Ohio) Historical Society. In updating and preparing his articles for that book, Dickas realized that there were other stories, as yet unwritten, that would serve to create a more accurate and comprehensive narrative of the history of Sidney and Shelby County.
Another year of research and writing has resulted in this volume, and companion to the first that both enhances the information in the original volume and introduces entirely new subjects.
While the volumes stand alone, they are complementary in the best sense of that word. The author is quick to point out that in more than one case, it is the interest of a reader, or a story he or she may have shared that has provided impetus for this work.
Dickas’ childhood in Sidney, his professional career as geophysicist and university professor and his abiding interests in history together create the nexus of enthusiasm from which this work springs.
